SRD Grant recipients should open bank accounts to fast-track payments

If you are a client who has recently been approved for the COVID-19 SRD grant, have not received a payment date on your January status (or earlier months), and have chosen to be paid through Postbank/ Cash send then you are strongly urged to open a bank account. In doing this, you will be uploaded on SASSA’s system and be able to fast-track your payments.

How to update your banking details through SASSA

• First, visit the SRD website and scroll down to “How do I change my banking details”, near the middle of the page
• Fill in your ID number
• Once you have done this, you will receive an SMS with a secure and unique link (this will be sent to the mobile number you used to register your grant application)
• Click the link in the SMS and follow all the instructions
• If you select payment into a bank account, be sure that you are the owner of the account as SASSA cannot pay your grant to someone else’s account
• If you select the ‘money transfer’ option via one of the major banks, ensure the mobile phone number you used to receive the SMS is registered in your name (SASSA cannot pay your grant into another person’s registered mobile)

It’s important to note that the new banking details you provide will only be used for any future payments and will be implemented once you have completed the aforementioned verification process discussed in this article.
