SASSA Does NOT offer Loans – Don’t Get Scammed

Each month, SASSA pays out grants to millions of residents in South Africa, who then use this money to pay for their most essential expenses. Even so, it is not easy making your SASSA grant stretch to the end of the month (despite the grant increases from 1 April 2023). That being said, many grant recipients look for additional means of payment, when they cannot find employment.
 

Does SASSA offer loans?

If you are wondering if SASSA offers loans – it has been confirmed across their official social media platforms, that SASSA does NOT offer loans (such as electricity, airtime, personal loans or pre-payment of grants).

Unfortunately, their are many scammers who prey on SASSA recipients and try get them to fall victim, by pretending to offer loans. Do NOT become a victim – stay away from these imposters!

What can I do if I already applied for a SASSA loan?

If you have been a victim of applying for “SASSA loans” (you probably gave them your ID number, cellphone number and SASSA card number), then you should report the matter to your nearest SASSA office or call their customer care dare department on 0800 601 011 as soon as possible.

If you receive your grant via TymeBank, you can get paid a portion of your grant early with their “Grant Advance”.
