How to use the Moya App for SASSA SRD Grant

What is the Moya App?

Released in July 2018, the MoyaApp is a free “all-in-one super app”, used by South Africans for datafree messaging or chat, all-in-one app content services, and MoyaPay. The app is available for download on the Google App store or on the iOS App store, and is compatible with all smart phones.

One of the top uses for the Moya App is to check your SRD Grant status.
Although SASSA has stated that the Moya App is not a SASSA app (i.e. it is not created by the South African Social Security Agency or the government), many recipients use the app each month for various services, including to check when their R350 grant will be paid.

What does the Moya App offer?

The Moya App claims to offer the following:

Moya Quiz (play, learn and win money)
Moya Rewards (earn money rewards from shopping)
paid market research surveys
over 300 content services (including weather, news, sport, games, shopping, entertainment, gossip, jobs, education, books, health, tech & science, religion etc) (some datafree)
easy launchpad to browse the internet
marketplace for bus tickets, health vouchers, accommodation, classified listings, insurance, financial services and more
load shedding updates
MoyaPay money account, dololo charges and datafree
buy airtime & data, prepaid vouchers, send money to bank accounts, deposit cash and take out cash, and much more

Is the Moya App safe?

According to the Google Play store, the Moya App currently has over 10 million downloads, therefore it seems a lot of people trust this app.

It also has over 175 000 reviews, with an average of 4.1 stars.

How to download the Moya App

Visit the Moya App website and navigate to your relevant app store (Google App store if your phone runs on Android or the Apple App store if your phone runs on iOS).

Make sure your cellphone data is switched on (even though it will not deduct any data). The App is currently #datafree on MTN, Vodacom, Cell C and Telkom in South Africa.
